North Charlotte Real Estate and General Information
From the South Park area to fast growing Union County, Charlotte’s south suburbs were the first to develop & they continue to attract a large portion of the region’s new residents. The area boasts the city’s fanciest stores, small historic towns, 5 star hotels, championship golf courses & much more.
South Park
About 6 miles south of uptown, the area surrounding South Park mall is Charlotte’s most upscale shopping district featuring Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Tiffany, Louis Vuitton, Crate & Barrel and many others. Fine dining includes Morton's, The Palm, Ruth Chris, Nobles & Upstream. Housing ranges from renovated 1970’s ranches in shady subdivisions to million dollar mansions in gated communities. Several new condominium complexes are also under construction, part of the city’s plan to make South Park a place where people can walk to jobs & shopping. Don’t miss seeing the Summer Pops in Symphony Park, a series of free outdoor concerts at South Park Mall each June.
Some of my favorite neighborhoods in South Park are Beverly Woods, Morrocroft, Seven Eagles, Sharon Hills, Foxcroft, Barclay Downs, Montibello, Stonecroft, Quail Hollow, & Royden.
Ballantyne
If SouthPark represents the established, Ballantyne epitomizes the new. Begun in the early 1990's, it is a beautifully planned development of 2,000 acres on what was once the Morrison hunting preserve in the "country." Today it is practically a city within a city, although devlopement has reached far beyond the original 2,000 acres. With Ballantyne as the hub, residential neighborhoods have pushed into Union County, as well as Lancaster & York Counties of South Carolina.
The Ballantyne area offers a wide range of shopping destinations including Ballantyne Village, Ballantyne Commons, Stone Crest, Blakeney, the Promenade, the Arboretum, Carolina Place Mall, just to name a few. Here you will most of the major national retailers along with numerous local specialty stores.
There is a wide variety of family and specialty dining opportunities throughout the area. They range from popular fast food establishments to some of the city’s most notable upscale restaurants. Recently Charlotte was named to the “Top 50 Cities That Sizzle” by Nation’s Restaurant News Magazine.
Some favorites are the Gallery Restaurant and Bar at the Ballantyne Resort, The Village Bistro, Tables, Villa Antonio, 131 Main, Cheese Cake Factory, Mortons, McCormick & Schmicks, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House, Maggiano’s Little Italy, PF Chang, Upstream, Ruth Chris Steak House, Mortons, The Palm, Firebirds, City Tavern, Hickory Tavern, China Bistro, Fusion, Phil & Tony’s, Mickey & Mooches, Wiseguys, Five Guys Burgers, Dean & Deluca, Starbucks, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, On the Border, Pei Wei Asian Diner, Outback, and many others.
The town center has shops, restaurants and a YMCA. And the Ballantyne area also boasts several new public schools. Within its borders are a 535-acre corporate park, which includes office buildings, the luxurious Ballatyne Resort, an 18-hole daily-fee golf course and the Dana Rader School of Golf. The golf course has been recognized as one of the best in the state and Dana Rader´s School ranks as one of the 25 best in the country.

Ballantyne Country Club includes custom homes ranging from the $500s to more than $2 million, as well as a private 18-hole golf course. Ballantyne also offers numerous condo/townhome and apartment communities, plus a variety of new-home communities.
